WEATHER, TRAFFIC & SPEEDBOATS IN KOTOR BAY

Don’t believe your weather apps here, they take no account of the dramatic topography, most of the time it’s sunny in the bay even when cloudy in the mountains! Click here to see our Weather in Kotor page for graphical analysis!

Traffic – road traffic between Kotor – Tivat – Budva is a mess. But it’s mainly people going to work and back, so it’s much worse in the mornings and weekdays. Weekends, early afternoons and holidays it’s much better. So we time the trips so you don’t have to travel in rush hour. We can sometimes start in Kotor in the morning, and end in Tivat after the rush.

Speedboats – these floating cars are mass tourism at its worst and they’re putting the sailing boats out of business. Bums on seats, complacent staff on their phones, noisy, uncomfortable, no shade, no drinks or picnic, no feeling of being on your own boat. Forgettable. If all you want is a social media clip, then they’re perfect. But 30e for Perast is 2 x 15 minutes = 60e an hour, usually a lot more than me! And three hours on a speedboat (Blue Cave) is two hours too long, whatever the cost!

We really liked it! Probably the best choice to sail with this yacht, rather than speedboat. 5 hours on the water didn't last long at all. Amazing captain, atmosphere, drinks and lunch!

We had the most amazing day sailing Boka Kotor Bay on the Monty B with Captain Tim and his adorable dog, Bertie.

This is a proper sailboat experience, not just a touristy group tour. With only 6 of us on board, it felt intimate, relaxed, and personalized from start to finish. Tim was the perfect host — he prepared a beautiful picnic of local snacks and dips, kept our drinks flowing, and shared fascinating stories and history about the bay and its coastline.

We spent the day swimming in the turquoise water, sunbathing on deck, snacking, laughing, and at one point even set sail to catch the wind — a real thrill.

I can’t recommend this enough. If you’re considering a boat trip in Kotor or Tivat, skip the crowded group tours — this private sailing adventure is an unforgettable experience.

Such a wonderful day out on the Monty B!
We highly recommend this trip. Captain Tim is a very friendly, knowledgeable and all round nice guy. And Bertie the sea dog was loved by all.

We saw the beautiful bay, stunning coat line & lush blue water including a few swims which we loved.
The lunch picnic was simply fantastic.
Topped off at the end of the trip with a gin and tonic.
The other guest on the boats were such lovely people.
If you’re in Montenegro this trip is a must!
